As a New York State employee or retiree, you may have NYSHIP (Empire Plan) coverage.

NYSHIP covers therapeutic medical massages for pain, injury, and disease when medically necessary. Coverage and reimbursement depend on your specific plan.

 Here’s what you need to know: 

Eligible Participants:

• Employees from NYS Public Schools, SUNY schools/hospitals, Rockland or Orange County Police, Port Authority NY, County/Town/Village employees, LIRR/MTA, NYS DMV, State Police/Troopers, NYS Dept of Correction, NYS Dept of Health/Parks, NY Supreme Court, Rockland  County employees, Orange County employees, Library/Fire Dept, and more.

Required Documentation:

• Prescription from your healthcare provider with:
  • Patient’s Name and date of birth
  • Diagnosis code or description
  • Prescribed treatment (ex- massage therapy/medical massage)
  • Prescribing physician’s name, npi, license number, office name and address
  • Date the prescription was written
  • Frequency and duration
• Completed NYSHIP form

Process:

1. Provide Your Information: Send us your insurance card, driver’s license, and prescription.
   • Important: We are not automatically notified when you send your information. Please follow up with a phone call to ensure we have received it.

        2. We Handle the Rest: Once we receive your information, we will confirm your NYSHIP benefits, including eligibility for out-of-network visits. Most people are entitled to up to 20 visits per calendar year, but some may qualify for more.

        3. Schedule Your Appointment: After confirming your benefits, we will contact you to set up your appointment.

NYSHIP Deductible Payment Policy

When a payment is required to begin services, it is non-refundable once treatment has started, regardless of insurance changes or client decisions.

How It Works

Insurance coverage for massage therapy depends on your plan and medical necessity. Our team will verify your benefits, coordinate any necessary paperwork with your doctor, and guide you through every step.

As of September 2025, NYSHIP massage therapy prescriptions are now valid for 6 months from the date they are written. This means you’ll have more time to use your benefits without the stress of frequent renewals. 

This is a NYSHIP insurance policy—not a rule from us—but it directly affects whether your sessions are eligible for reimbursement. Our goal is to help you stay compliant and avoid any disruptions in your care.
